Never stop.

While I appreciate the author’s motivation to save the planet, her proposed solution has a devastating cost well beyond the narrow lens of environmentalism. Sure, travel has some downsides ecologically. But what it offers sociologically — in mutual understanding between cultures and the world around us, is immeasurably greater.

I know this wasn’t the author’s intent, but this strain of thinking condescends to and infantilizes other cultures. Yes, one party has more economic leverage than the other, but we have to trust that even developing nations are smart and industrious enough to curb behaviors detrimental to their environment — and ultimately, to their long-term financial interests. To think otherwise is insulting, condescending and elitist.

Never stop traveling. Never stop exploring. Never stop meeting people different than you. The more different, the better. Never stop visiting any place you’re curious about. And most important — never stop being curious.
